Non-personal post
Let's think about what all animals (re: mammals) have in common. They all need to:
-eat
-sleep
-fuck
In addition to this, many of them have to kill. However, do animals have an instinct to play? Often you'll see cubs of some sort tossing to and fro, but in my opinion, this is just another branch of an animal's need to kill. I can't say I've ever seen adult lions 'playing'.
I suppose an exception must be made for household pets (well, at least dogs and some cats). They certainly like to 'play'. Is this still an extension of the fact that they were intended for killing? I've seen my dog handle some of his toys quite visciously.
On to my point. We, as humans, do not follow a pattern of simply eating, sleeping and fucking. We deny our purpose. No, this isn't one of those hippie 'we should live with nature' type of points. My point is, where did everything else come from? The pursuit of wealth, the thrill for rollercoasters, the longing for culinary masterpieces. Well, it certainly doesn't seem like all this is an extension of eating, I don't get full when I play a video game. It's not sleep, since I'm fully conscious when I watch a scary movie. Well if you ask me, a lot of what we do is simulated orgasm.
When riding a rollercoaster, watching a scary movie, or playing a suspenseful game, your heart is pumping, your hair stands on end, and you're in a heightened state of anxiety.
Note to self and audience: even I haven't convinced myself from this post. It's very bleh, I was just sick of doing 'normal' personal posts, one of which I'll do later.
