Winamp! Nooooooooo!

Fuck it all. My winamp isn't working. It may be because I installed a private RO server last night...at least, that's when it started acting up.

It seems as though my computer is once again going through what I will coin computer puberty. Awkward changes including: files where there didn't used to be files, taking longer to respond to actions, and deep physical urges to 'get with' other computers.

I like to think that I take care of my computers, but sometimes computer puberty is inevitable. It'll be nice (albeit timeconsuming and frustrating) to give this thing a clean slate...again. Wait, actually this'll be the first time I wipe this drive. My older computer, however, has probably been wiped clean about four or five times. But it was Windows ME, and before the age of Firefox and adware removal, so that's actually a reasonable number. I really have no idea how computer-fearing people can go for as long as they can without reformatting. Of course they're more succeptible to accumulating crap, not keeping the file directory well sorted, and generally not giving a good cleaning every now and again.

On a different note, Ragnarok Online is fun. I remember playing the beta (and I remember making a blog post about remembering the beta). Of course, it was fun because it was free. One of these days I may go right ahead and get the six month package, but I fear that I'll stop playing after a month or two and pick up some other game that doesn't have a lifespan. I was playing on the private server (free but buggy and illegal) last night, and that game really is beautiful. Like if Diablo wasn't about evil and death, and the characters were replaced with cutesy anime style sprites, you'd have RO. Even some of the people you meet for brief moments are entertaining; I had a conversation with some other novice that simply included "I can't sit!", "I can't stand!". Good times.

Well, I'm still working like a dog, but of course I get next to nothing accomplished on weekends, so I haven't done any work yet. I've got two assignments and one midterm in the next two days, and then I'm leaving on a jet plane for Thunder Bay. So farn the agenda is sledding and a Star Wars marathon. I'm sure there will be a lot of chillaxinization as well.

In other news, I have no roommates now. That is to say I have none listed. Either I have a four bedroom townhouse all to myself, or this housing process isn't as smooth as I thought it would be. Who knows who I'll wind up with in the end.

Gas Leak in residence = valentine's date

And here I am...8 minutes to midnight. I've got early class tomorrow...I'll be kicking myself for being up so late later, but life is too short to make sense.

Last night there was a gas leak in the residence and we all had to standin the parking lot for a while at about 10 PM. Then the fire crew told us we couldn't go back in for an hour, so I went to William's with Grace and Elspeth (two girls from my residence). We had some intersting conversation, and I told them 'the story' of how I ruined the best thing I had going for me. But enough about how I had another lonesome Valentine's day.

I sent some flowers to Vicky, yellow roses. They were intended to be a surprise, but aparently Martine can't be trusted. I really thought I found someone I could have decent conversations with, but she's betrayed my trust and I've taken a mental note of it. The flowers set me back a pretty penny, but sometimes you have to admire things once in a while.

I feel like there's nothing to look forward to. When I go home in the summer, I go back to working full time, and after that I go back to universtiy. After university, I get some job I won't like and work it for thirty years. To summarize, the next thirty two years of my life will be as miserable as it is now.

Drawing from the first post I ever made with this blog, I wish I was some ignorant fool. Ignorant people have fun doing ignorant things. I just can't do it though; I can't bring myself down to that level. I'm too aware for my own good. I'm not trying to imply that I'm better than other people, I just live differently than everyone else. I'm living in a culture completely disjoint from my own.

Yeesh

I'm running kinda late on time here, but I desperately need to contact my faithful minions.

Sunday afternoon straight to Wednesday night was work. Just work. Some half hour breaks, but mainly work. the sad thing is, I didn't even get ahead on my work like I intended, but at least I didn't get behind.

I went to see Thornley last night. The opening badn, Oliver Black, was pretty good for a rock band, but all rock music sounds the same to me. They did a really good Whole Lotta Love cover, and the guitarist ripped out some amazing solos. We got there at about 8:40, and the first band didn't play until 10:30. Only one opening band, too. $18 doesn't get you much.

Thornley came out, and the place went pretty crazy. I like smaller bands where people don't scream if the singer says anything at all. Like, when DBS plays (they're playing on the 27th!), it's like the band is just there to have fun, no girls screaming cause he's sooooo dreamy. Anyways, Thornley played a few Big Wreck songs, to be expected, and most of the stuff they played sounded a lot like right off the cd, which is both good and bad. When you hear something live, you really want something that is a lot different then what you hear all the time for much less money at home. At least I got out.

Today, my econ midterm was much more brutal than the last one. With about 15 seconds remaining, I noticed I mixed up two variables in the first part of a question, which fucks everything else up for the rest of the question. Plus, I was doing it on less sleep than usual, since I didn't get to bed until almost 3 AM because of the concert.

Well, due to recent circumstances, this last week goes down in my books as a terrible week. I was supposed to go to Mississauga and get some Red Lobster, but lo and behold, the plans fell through at the last minute. Giving up snow crab for leftover pork and potatoes is no fun at all. Well...on the bright side I get to play poker tonight, but I'd rather have hungout with the N-crew.

Well...it looks like I'm working on my own game design. I think I could get most of the mechanics coding done by the end of summer, depending on how long my burst of dedication goes on. I think that by the time I'm done universtiy though, I might have a project that I can call my very own. Mind you, after doing all that work, I'll be utterly sick of video games.

Well, that's all I need to say.

"so then we take the answer and times it by five, then minus off the residual"

No you freak, you take the answer and multiply it by five, then subtract the residual. You would think that people who are majoring in math would at least use the correct terminology.

Unmotivation at its finest

Last weekend I had an excuse for not getting much workd done. I had other things to do. This weekend, not so much. However, I still think I won't be getting much done. I just feel like taking a weekend off for video games, know what I mean? I had the intent of completing FFT this weekend, but after about two hours of it last night, I only made four story battles' worth of progress. Then I played Disgaea for a while.

I got accepted into my residence next year! Huzzah! Only one of my three roommates is listed though, so I'm wondering what happened to the other two. So far all I know about this other guy is that he's a Political Science Major. I have his email address, but I won't be living with him for another seven months, so there's no need to establish contact yet.

Last night's dinner was salmon which means...salmon salad in the salad bar! I made a sandwich which is sitting in my fridge right now. Jeez I love salmon salad sandwiches. Of course, if I had them more frequently, they wouldn't be quite as special to me.

Next weekend I'm going to visit 'the family'. It's Gennie's birthday, so everyone will be at Maria's, and I've got to pick up some boxes and stuff that John used to help move. The only problem is that there's a poker tournament next Friday, and I'd love to play in it, but I'll likely head to Mississauga on Friday. Maybe I'll stay for the tournament, and head out the next morning. That way, I avoid the rush hour traffic on the way there, but if I stay there Saturday night I'll have to hit it coming back on Sunday. Well, I'm sure I'll get some plan in order by then.

Last night I had to use one of my tardy submissions to finish my CS241 assignment. There were four assignments left, and I had three tardys to use, so as long as I can finish the next one on time, I can take an extra weekend on the other two. Of course, I'll still try to finish them on time. That's what the tardys are for: when you can't finish something on time.

For the next assignment I've got to learn the documentaion and specification for two different programs, so for the next week I'm going to be doing a lot of reading. Not to mention that for the UNIX assignments I have to read the UNIX manual I have. Lots of reading for that course. The assignment is supposedly easy once you understand the supplementary programs though, so here's hoping. For the next week, JLex and SL are my best friends.

Badges? We don't need to stinkin' Badges!

The title is meaningless, just some movie trivia perhaps.

I just finished an assignment, not enough time to log on to MSN, but not time for supper quite yet, so I figure I'll inform the world of stuff.

To say I'm finished my assignment is a lie; I've still got one part of one question to do, but I'm done other than that. I've still got such a massive portion of my CS241 assignment to finish, and to be honest I have no idea how to do it. It's one of those typical goddam CS assignments (or math assignments even) where it doesn't test your understanding of the material, but rather tests your ability to come up with the one completely abstract and vital piece of information you need to finish the each question, which is little to no work besides that one vital step.

I got Disgaea in the mail the other day. Very fun. I worry though that now I'll neglect FFT even though I promised myself I would finish the game this time. I put aside all homework the other night and just played Disgaea for about four hours, like the good old days. Of course, now I have a midterm tomorrow that I haven't studied for, and the massively annoying assignment due the very next day. Still, life should be enjoyed rather than spent working constantly.

Just a little over a week until the Thornley concert (followed two assignments the next day). That should be a break from the ordinary, if nothing else.

I realized I screwed some stuff up when jotting down notes for my upcoming break...after a phone call to westjet, I found out that I booked my flight for the 23rd instead of the 24th, which means that I actually have five days off instead of four. Do you realize that? Most university students get 9 days off (with weekends), I get 4. I'm only getting an extra day at home because I'm skipping one of my days (although luckily there's no assignment due that week for the tutorial I'm skipping, Econ is cancelled cause it's an arts course, and the M239 lecture should likely be quasi-review for the midterm the week after). Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I have to study for my midterm while I'm on my break.

Ok, well supper should be in its prime right now, there whould be a good mix of people at the table. That's most of what's new anyways.
